The mission of the Chapter Government Relations Committee is to monitor legislative activity at the state and federal level that touches the financial planner and the financial planning profession; to report to the Chapter membership on such legislation; and to mobilize the Chapter membership, when necessary, to respond to such legislation.
In 2008, the Committee plans to devote its time and energy to three projects:
-
Formulate plans for Financial Planning Day at the Maryland General Assembly: Work with us as we attempt to duplicate the success of other FPA chapters with a session in Annapolis to meet and greet Maryland General Assembly members.
-
Support the Financial Planning Association Political Action Committee (FPA-PAC): Representing financial planners and issues affecting planner practices are primary objectives of the Financial Planning Association. To enhance our efforts, the FPA-PAC was created as the federally registered political action committee of FPA, the only registered PAC on Capitol Hill representing the interests of the financial planning profession. By contributing to the FPA-PAC fund, you're helping support candidates for the United States Senate and House of Representatives — primarily incumbents, regardless of political party — who have demonstrated previous support of issues FPA believes critical to advancing the profession.
-
Publish the “Hot Topics” Monthly Newsletter: Help us track important legislation as it moves through Congress and the Maryland General Assembly. The Government Relations Committee of Maryland released its first edition of the Hot Topics Monthly Newsletter in February 2006. The Newsletter serves to keep FPA members informed of Federal and State Legislative actions that affect our profession.
